Why apply for the scholarship? Chad's generosity and mission to fund schooling and experiences for people who are dedicated to the arts goes beyond allowing recipients to pursue their goals. It is an acknowledgement of their abilities, an endorsement of their goals, and a conviction that they will magnify their successes.
My Story
This extremely generous scholarship made a huge impact on the trajectory of my career. I was able to use the time I would have spent taking additional jobs to instead start a new research project that kick-started a line of study that I am still pursuing. I am currently an Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education at the University of Nebraska Omaha and serve as a member of the Medical Humanities faculty. I teach undergraduate and graduate music education courses, direct the Medical Choirs and serve as a faculty advisor. My research, which I have presented nationally and internationally, centers on conductor and teacher expertise, effective use of teacher verbalizations, collaborative rehearsing, and the influence of specific teaching strategies on student performance outcomes. I get to collaborate with other researchers to look at music and performance through the lens of sociology, psychology, and neurology. Most recently, I have been analyzing and describing the social and musical rehearsal behaviors of singers in the award-winning, professional ensemble Cantus.
